Job description
Product Development Assistant
The Product Development assistant is responsible for providing ongoing creative, and technical support. You will be required to assist with production and design, technical packs, style sheets, artwork, colour approvals and measurements.
POSITION KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Product Development/ Assistance
- Interpret colour boards and trend forecasts to assist in the creation of progressive storyboards
- Liaise with the suppliers and the production team to ensure the product is designed and manufactured to an appropriate standard
- Forecast relevant trends for retail customer, Source appropriate shapes, colours and styles for target market for each individual department
- Communicate, direct and contribute to graphic design
- Design and sketch garments to presentation stage (Graphic design is essential to this role) Garment illustrations and concepts must be on a computer-based program, not hand illustration
- Create technical and design spec sheets for suppliers and the production process
- Design innovative graphics for use on apparel and accessories in the forms of logos, placement prints, fabric designs and labelling
- Work on any yardage and placement prints for brand
- Manage ad hoc requests on a day-to-day basis
- Liaising with Product Development Manager on new season fabrics, print designs and trims.
- Communicate with suppliers daily
Required skills and qualifications
- Excellent time management skills
- Good relationship & interpersonal skills
- Impeccable organisation skills
- Tertiary qualified in a relevant design discipline- Fashion design, Design Technology
- Knowledge of Fits, fabrications, grading rules and manufacturing process
- Proven track record in assisting role in design or product development
- Adobe programs: Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign & Acrobat. Illustrator is CRUCIAL
- Internal business programs: SAP (not essential but desired)
- An understanding of QA systems and process, pattern making skills
