Role Summary:
Hands-on technical engineering role supporting broadcast production systems. Focus on system builds, fault finding, network support, and basic scripting. Works closely with the Project Engineer for the first 6-8 months with the aim to step into a leadership capacity over time.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform component-level fault finding, repair and hardware maintenance
Build, modify and rebuild broadcast systems
Provide network support across TV and IT systems
Use basic scripting (PowerShell preferred) to automate tasks
Support studio operations, including on-site and occasional offsite broadcasts
Assist with R&D and continuous system improvements
Collaborate with and eventually supervise 3 Duty Technicians
Follow a rotating schedule including some weekend and after-hours work
Technical Skills Required:
Strong understanding of systems engineering and networking
Exposure to scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Bash - not essential)
Familiar with microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino - hobbyist interest is fine)
Some mechanical or fitter experience preferred
Awareness of modern broadcast trends: cloud-based hardware, streaming tech
Candidate Profile:
3-5 years' experience in TV/media/broadcast or technical IT support
Diploma in a relevant field (degree not required but preferred)
Comfortable with tools and hands-on problem solving
Curious, eager to learn, and adaptable
Not suited to someone too focused on traditional broadcast methods due to larger IT component
Team Structure:
Reports to: Project Engineer
Works alongside: 3 x Duty Technicians
Will gradually take on team leadership responsibility after 12 months
Additional Information:
Largely based onsite
Flexible hours; some after-hours support required
Occasional offsite broadcasts (domestic travel only)
