Supporting and reporting to the MD this hands-on newly created role will champion the pillars of People, Culture, Commercial and Innovation within this high-profile fashion business ensuring maximum ROI on people, product and capital.

As COO you will create, implement, and execute growth strategies and action plans and ensure frameworks are in place to inspire each individual in the team to contribute to its successful execution,

You will also be responsible for the management and reporting of the business's financial, stock, staff, compliance, internal and external contracts, and IT.

Your direct reports oversee the Finance, Retail, Digital, HR, IT, and Sustainability functions.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • HR - Oversee recruitment, retention, performance reviews and the professional development of all staff.
  • Commercial - allocation and monitoring of resources, focusing with all department managers on driving their KPIs and commercial outcomes and ROI of people, product and capital.
  • Financial & Commercial Management - Set sales and margin budgets, ensure accurate financial reporting, manage business costs, inventory management, and lease negotiations
  • Retail Stores - Provide leadership to the National Retail Manager, Oversee OTB and Total Buy Process including RRP setting.
  • Digital - Work closely with the Digital Manager on initiatives to drive the online business with a focus on digital advertising and website opportunities.
  • Design - support Design Team with range planning, presentation of OTB information and historic sell through data to plan for the season ahead, while also identifying opportunities for category and brand expansion
  • Wholesale Customer Management - Further establish and grow wholesale business, while acting as key liaison with key wholesale accounts domestically and globally.
  • Press & Brand - In collaboration with the Creative Director and Marketing Manager be responsible for creating and implementing the domestic and international brand, PR, digital, retail and wholesale marketing and communications strategy.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement - Provide thought leadership and change management for business improvements, efficiencies, and processes, identify new metrics to drive business performance, and leading business innovation and R&D projects
  • Relationships - Develop strong working and strategic relationships with customers, partners, and suppliers, ensuring all communication with internal teams and external customers/suppliers is accurate, clear, and timely.
  • Leadership - Develop and coach to promote knowledge sharing and values-based culture throughout the business, while celebrating and actively recognising wins and successes within the team

Culture fit is important, so a willingness to understand the companies design-led values, its customers, and the importance of the Australian fashion industry is essential, all of which provide an environment of innovative decision making that adds measurable value to the business.

Your background has been within the fashion, retail or beauty sectors, preferably in a similar broad-based role that incorporates much of the above. Alternatively, you may be a department head in a larger fashion/retail business with strong commercial skills who is looking for the next step. Your style is hands-on (when needed), lead from the front, get involved and understand the detail, but them delegate, empower and manage through your managers. You are a problem solver, a good listener and inspire others through your genuine collaborative style which ensures cross functional teamwork and clearly communicates how each individual contributes to their department goals which drives the overall business targets. A financial background would be ideal, but a strong grasp of numbers and commercial astuteness is a must.
