6 month contract - Stand-alone WHS role responsible for establishing, developing and implementing WHS management systems company wide

Exciting and challenging opportunity for an experienced WHS Coordinator/Manager - MUST HAVE WORKED FOR A RETAIL/FASHION COMPANY

What is the job about?

Reporting to the HR Manager - Corporate, this role is responsible for providing expert support and advice on all matters relating to work health, safety, injury management and workers compensation as well as the evaluation and continuous improvement of the Company's WHS management system and its implementation across the organisation.

Reporting on WHS performance and governance is also a key responsibility. A key focus of the role involves leading, influencing and building collaborative and practical solutions to WHS.

Workplace, Health and Safety System

  • Review, enhance and implement the Company's WHS management system
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace
  • Advise management on accident prevention strategies and assist in their implementation
  • Drive the WHS Risk Management process across the Company including Head Office, Warehouse and Retail Stores
  • Continuously improve and maintain appropriate WHS documentation and controls
  • Act as an advocate in relation to the implementation and continuous improvement of safety
  • Risk and Hazard Management including workplace auditing and compliance activities
  • Act as an advocate in relation to the implementation and continuous improvement of workplace health and safety
  • Attend the Corporate WHS meetings and client review meetings as required
  • Monitor and communicate to relevant stakeholders, any changes to WHS legislation

Training

  • In collaboration with the HR team, develop and continuously improve training packages for employees
  • Provide training and guidance for WHS committees and coordinate their reporting
  • Prepare and deliver appropriate training and education materials including induction materials and toolbox talks

Audits

  • Complete audits / reviews to proactively assess effectiveness of programs and measure compliance
  • Ensure workplace auditing activities including inspections, hazard/near miss reporting and risk assessments
  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures

Reporting

  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics (including incidents, injuries and hazards)
  • Prepare reports for the Board and Executive management
  • Maintain WHS reporting systems and, with the Executive Team, facilitate a reporting culture

Consultation

  • Contribute and be an active member of relevant teams and committees
  • Ensure appropriate communication channels are established
  • Effectively promote an understanding of desired WHS relevant to operational areas
  • Contribute to the development of a culture that promotes the well-being of employees
  • Provide leadership to coordinate and act as an advisor and facilitator to management representatives
  • Attend the Corporate WHS meetings and client review meetings as required
  • Coordinate WHS committee meetings and associated reporting of recommendations and review activities

Who are we looking for?

  • WHS coordinator/manager experience, preferably in retail organisation
  • Full understanding of Australian Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Standards and Regulations essential
  • Relevant qualifications in Risk Management or OH&S
  • Self-motivated, energetic and enthusiastic WHS specialist
